Lunchtime / Midday Supervisory Assistant – Wyvern Academy

£25,614 per annum full time equivalent; actual salary for part-time, term-time only working: £7,405 per annum

12.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 11:30am – 2:00pm

Many of our Midday Supervisory Assistants go on to become Teaching Assistants at Wyvern Academy as opportunities arise. For some, this role is the first step in a rewarding career supporting children and young people with additional needs.

This isn’t just a lunchtime job.

It's helping a child feel safe during one of the busiest parts of their day. It's knowing when someone needs reassurance. It's helping a pupil build confidence, independence and friendships. It's turning a busy dining hall into a place where children feel supported, understood and included.

And sometimes, it's the smallest moments that matter most. A child trying something new. A young person sitting with others. A smile from a pupil who's had a difficult morning. A quiet moment of trust. Moments that might seem small to others.

But at Wyvern Academy, we know they can mean everything. Because this isn't just a lunchtime job. It's helping children feel they belong.

What you'll be doing

Lunchtime is an important part of the school day. For some pupils, it's a chance to socialise, build independence and develop confidence. For others, it can feel overwhelming, busy or unpredictable.

As a Midday Supervisory Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils have a positive and successful lunchtime experience.

You'll:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support children and young people in the dining hall and around the school during lunchtime.
  • Encourage independence, communication and social interaction.
  • Help pupils feel safe, settled and included.
  • Support pupils with individual needs with patience, understanding and care.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, healthy eating and good hygiene.
  • Set up, clear and maintain a clean, welcoming dining environment.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure every pupil receives the support they need.
  • Bring warmth, positivity and encouragement to every day.

Who we're looking for

  • We're not looking for someone with all the answers.
  • We're looking for someone who cares.
  • Someone who can build positive relationships with children and young people.
  • Someone who stays calm when things become busy or unpredictable.
  • Someone who notices when a child needs encouragement.
  • Someone who sees potential in every young person.
  • Experience is welcome, but it's your attitude, kindness and willingness to learn that matter most.

If you're patient, reliable, compassionate and enjoy being part of a team, we'd love to hear from you.
