We are recruiting a VAT Manager on behalf of a highly regarded and growing accountancy and business advisory firm in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced VAT Manager, Indirect Tax Manager, or ambitious VAT professional to join a supportive and forward-thinking tax team, managing a varied portfolio of clients and delivering complex VAT, indirect tax, and customs advice.

The Role

As a VAT Manager, you will manage a portfolio of clients while taking the lead on complex VAT and indirect tax assignments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing a portfolio of VAT and indirect tax clients
• Delivering VAT compliance and advisory services
• Advising clients on complex VAT, indirect tax, and customs matters
• Leading technical VAT assignments from planning through to completion
• Reviewing VAT work and ensuring high technical and quality standards
• Responding to client queries and providing practical, commercially focused advice
• Identifying VAT planning opportunities and additional advisory work
• Preparing fee proposals, managing budgets, WIP, and fee recovery
• Working closely with Directors, Partners, and specialist teams
• Supporting business development and identifying opportunities with new and existing clients
• Managing workloads and delegating work effectively
• Coaching and mentoring junior members of the VAT team

About You

You'll have:

• CTA and/or ACA/ACCA qualification, or equivalent experience
• Strong VAT experience gained within a UK accountancy practice or professional services environment
• Proven experience managing a VAT client portfolio
• Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT and indirect tax
• Experience handling complex VAT advisory assignments
• Excellent client relationship and communication skills
• Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• A proactive and collaborative approach

Experience with customs and international indirect tax would be advantageous.
