Solution Architect- Edinburgh

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Solution Architect to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 6-12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Edinburgh.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Solution Architect to provide strategic and technical leadership across a complex enterprise technology landscape spanning cloud, infrastructure, applications, integrations and established legacy platforms.

The successful candidate will play a key role in bringing different technologies and systems together, acting as the architectural“glue” across the environment. They will need to understand how different components interact, identify dependencies and trade-offs, and translate complex requirements into secure, scalable and resilient technology solutions.

AI is increasingly relevant to the technology landscape, but this is not an AI specialist role. We are looking for someone who embraces AI, is curious about its potential and is actively exploring how AI tools can support architectural thinking, analysis and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Lead solution architecture and design activities across complex enterprise technology environments.
• Translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable and resilient solutions.
• Define and govern target-state architectures, roadmaps, standards and reusable architectural patterns.
• Provide architectural direction across cloud, infrastructure, applications, integrations and legacy platforms.
• Understand how historic and modern systems interact and define appropriate approaches for joining these technologies together.
• Lead architecture across APIs, integrations, distributed services, microservices and event-driven environments.
• Assess existing technology environments and define appropriate target architectures and migration strategies.
• Evaluate architectural options and emerging technologies, assessing technical trade-offs, risks and benefits.
• Support delivery teams through solution design, architecture assurance, technical risk management, implementation guidance and operational readiness.
• Ensure solutions adhere to relevant security, privacy, regulatory, audit and governance requirements.
• Partner with business, product, engineering, architecture, security, risk and delivery stakeholders to provide clear technical direction.
• Maintain key architectural deliverables including reference architectures, roadmaps, solution designs, decision records, integration standards, governance frameworks and risk assessments.
• Support technology assessments and proofs of concept where appropriate.
• Explore how AI and emerging technologies can be incorporated into the technology landscape and used to better understand and solve complex architectural problems.
