About the Role
Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking a committed Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you’ll play a key role in supporting students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with complex needs to develop their communication, independence, learning, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and personalised learning activities.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with PMLD and complex additional needs.
- Support students to access learning through sensory, communication, physical, and practical activities.
- Assist students with developing communication, interaction, independence, and social skills.
- Support students with personal care, feeding, toileting, mobility, and other individual needs where required.
- Use appropriate communication approaches, including visual supports, objects of reference, signs, symbols, and AAC where appropriate.
- Support students with sensory processing needs and help create a calm, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
- Encourage students to develop confidence, independence, and positive relationships with others.
- Follow individual education, healthcare, therapy, and behaviour plans as directed by relevant professionals.
- Monitor and provide feedback on students’ progress, behaviour, communication, engagement, and wellbeing.
Requirements
- Encourage students to make choices, participate in activities, and develop greater independence.
- Monitor and provide feedback on students’ progress, behaviour, communication, engagement, and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, healthcare professionals, parents, carers, and the wider school team.
- Support students during break times, lunchtimes, trips, community activities, and other school activities where required.
- Assist with classroom preparation, specialist resources, equipment, displays, and learning activities.
- Follow appropriate moving and handling, health and safety, and personal care procedures at all times.
- Promote dignity, inclusion, independence, and positive relationships throughout the school day.
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.
