Apply on FDM Group's site

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking two NEC Project Managers to support a major infrastructure and construction client in the delivery of site-based projects across the Exeter and Plymouth region. This role is initially a 6 month contract with good potential to extend and requires regular attendance on site across the Exeter and Plymouth area, typically 2-3 days per week, with the remainder of the time spent working remotely.

You will play a key role in managing the safe and successful delivery of construction activities while supporting elements of project design and technical coordination. Working closely with contractors, site teams, designers, commercial stakeholders, and project sponsors, you will ensure projects are delivered in line with programme objectives, contractual requirements, quality standards, and health and safety obligations.

Operating across both site and design environments, you will provide robust oversight of contractor performance, programme progress, project governance, design development, and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

About the Role

We are seeking two Mid-Level NEC Project Managers with experience delivering construction, infrastructure, civil engineering, or capital projects and a practical understanding of both site operations and project design activities.

You will be responsible for managing projects throughout the delivery lifecycle, ensuring contractors perform against contractual obligations while supporting design coordination, programme development, and project governance activities. Working alongside site managers, designers, contractors, commercial teams, and client stakeholders, you will drive project delivery while maintaining strong safety, quality, and contractual standards.

The successful candidates will be confident operating within live construction environments, coordinating multiple stakeholders, managing contractor performance, and ensuring that both design and delivery activities remain aligned to programme objectives.

This role requires hands-on project managers who are comfortable balancing site presence with project coordination responsibilities and can work effectively across both delivery and design teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects from concept and design through to completion
  • Acting as the NEC Project Manager and administering projects in accordance with NEC contract requirements
  • Coordinating design activities to ensure solutions are deliverable, compliant, and aligned with project objectives
  • Monitoring contractor performance against programme, cost, quality, and safety objectives
  • Managing site-based delivery activities and ensuring works progress in line with agreed schedules
  • Coordinating contractors, consultants, design teams, client representatives, and key stakeholders throughout delivery
  • Reviewing contractor programmes, design submissions, technical documentation, and project deliverables
  • Managing project governance, reporting, risks, issues, actions, and dependencies
  • Supporting the management of compensation events, change control processes, and contractual obligations
  • Assisting commercial teams with contract administration and project controls activities
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, industry standards, and site procedures
  • Conducting site inspections, progress reviews, and delivery assurance activities
  • Producing regular project reports and project updates for senior stakeholders
  • Facilitating project meetings, design reviews, contractor workshops, and governance forums
  • Managing stakeholder expectations and maintaining effective communication throughout project delivery
  • Driving project performance to achieve successful delivery against scope, budget, programme, and quality objectives
