Staff AI Engineer

We’re looking for a Staff AI Engineer (AI Specialist) to help shape how AI is engineered across one of the UK’s largest technology organisations.

This is a genuinely hands-on, cross-functional AI engineering role. You will work with engineering teams across the organisation, solve complex technical problems, build proofs of concept and create reusable AI patterns that can be adopted at scale.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Define and develop reusable AI engineering patterns, accelerators and reference architectures
• Build production-ready solutions across RAG, LLM integration, agentic AI and prompt engineering
• Lead technical discovery and assess the feasibility and value of new AI opportunities
• Work closely with engineering teams to solve complex AI problems and accelerate delivery
• Help establish AI engineering standards, best practices and responsible AI guardrails
• Evaluate emerging AI models, frameworks and technologies and determine where they can create real business value
• Influence the AI and data platform roadmap across the organisation
• Coach and enable other engineers, helping to raise the overall AI engineering capability
• Work across multiple technology domains rather than being tied to a single product or team

Skills & Requirements:

You’ll ideally have:

• Hands-on experience building AI / GenAI solutions
• Deep experience with LLMs and agentic AI systems
• Strong Python development skills
• Experience with RAG, prompt engineering and/or fine-tuning
• Experience with frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel or equivalent
• Strong understanding of data engineering and how AI solutions interact with data platforms and pipelines
• Experience working with cloud-native technologies – Azure experience is particularly valuable
• Experience operating within complex enterprise environments
• A strong understanding of security, governance and responsible AI
