FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a User Researcher with Active SC to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a remote role with occasional travel into London or Manchester.
We are seeking a highly skilled User Researcher to lead the discovery and validation of user needs across data handling and classification processes. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the implementation of data labelling and classification frameworks is intuitive, user-centric, and aligned with real-world behaviours. You will collaborate closely with business analysts, product teams, and key stakeholders to uncover insights that shape a seamless and effective user experience.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute a comprehensive user research strategy across all phases of the project
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research including end-user interviews, surveys, and observational research
- Partner with Business Analysts to review and map existing processes and user journeys
- Develop deep insights into user understanding of data sensitivity and classification requirements
- Analyse user behaviour patterns when handling, storing, and sharing data
- Create and maintain detailed user personas focused on data handling behaviours
- Capture user needs, motivations, friction points, and variations across roles and departments
- Lead usability testing initiatives including pilot testing of classification and labelling approaches
- Test and refine label naming, descriptions, and guidance through iterative feedback
