Higher-Level Teaching Assistant

Location: Little Chalfont

Salary: MPS / UPS

Contract: Full-time

Are you a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Higher-Level Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking a committed HLTA to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you’ll play a key role in supporting students’ learning, development, and wellbeing. Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and effective learning activities.
  • Lead lessons and learning activities in the absence of the class teacher, following appropriate lesson plans and school procedures.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them access the curriculum and develop their confidence and independence.
  • Work with students across a range of abilities, adapting support and activities to meet individual learning needs where appropriate.
  • Support students with literacy, numeracy, communication, and other areas of their academic development.
  • Provide targeted support to students with additional learning needs, including SEND, helping them engage positively with their learning.
  • Encourage students to develop their confidence, independence, social skills, and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Help create a positive, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, curiosity, and respect.
  • Support teachers with classroom management and promote positive behaviour throughout the school day.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on students’ progress, behaviour, and engagement, communicating any concerns to the class teacher or relevant staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, teaching assistants, parents, and the wider school team to support student progress and wellbeing.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, displays, resources, assessments, and other duties that contribute to an effective learning environment.

Requirements

  • A relevant Teaching Assistant, HLTA, education, or childcare qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students’ learning, development, and wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative, and respond confidently to different situations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a range of tasks effectively.
  • A proactive, flexible, and adaptable approach to supporting teachers and students.
  • A commitment to inclusion and ensuring all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
