FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking Automation Business Analysts to work with our global systems integrator client, supporting a major innovation and back-office transformation programme within a secure Defence environment. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, simplify business processes, and support the adoption of emerging automation and AI technologies across complex business functions.

This is an initial assignment running until the end of the current financial year, with strong extension prospects into 2027 and 2028. The role is predominantly remote, with occasional travel to end client sites for workshops, stakeholder engagement, and programme activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced SFIA Level 5-6 Business Analysts who enjoy working on large-scale transformation initiatives, evaluating automation opportunities, and helping organisations realise value through intelligent process automation and digital innovation.

All candidates must hold current SC Clearance or be eligible to obtain SC Clearance prior to starting. Due to the nature of the programme, candidates must be sole British Nationals.

About the Role

We are seeking Automation Business Analysts to support a significant transformation programme focused on modernising back-office operations and delivering efficiency through automation technologies. The programme will have a substantial indirect impact on customer-facing services, improving organisational effectiveness and enabling future innovation.

You will work with business stakeholders, architects, delivery teams, and automation specialists to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation. The role will involve analysing current business processes, eliciting requirements, assessing automation feasibility, and supporting decisions around platform strategy, including the use of Microsoft Power Platform, AI-enabled automation tools, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technologies.

You will operate as part of a multidisciplinary Agile delivery team and play a key role in driving evidence-based decisions regarding automation roadmaps, platform selection, and future-state operating models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery and analysis activities to identify automation and process improvement opportunities
  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand current operating models, pain points, and business objectives
  • Elicit, document, and manage business, functional, and non-functional requirements
  • Analyse and map complex business processes using recognised business analysis techniques
  • Assess processes for suitability for automation and intelligent workflow solutions
  • Support the evaluation of automation platforms, including Power Platform, UiPath, Blue Prism, NICE, and AI-enabled technologies
  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews, and requirements-gathering sessions
  • Produce business cases, options assessments, process maps, user stories, and requirements documentation
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, automation engineers, and product teams to shape solution designs
  • Support the definition of future-state business processes and operating models
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies and backlog refinement activities
  • Provide ongoing stakeholder management, governance support, and benefits tracking throughout delivery
