Behaviour Focused Teaching Assistant

Location: Burnham

Salary: MPS / UPS

Contract: Full-time

Are you a calm, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting positive behaviour and student development? We are seeking a committed Behaviour-Focused Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you’ll play a key role in helping students manage their behaviour, build confidence, and engage positively with their learning. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people who may require additional behavioural and emotional support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate behaviour management strategies to encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, independence, and social skills.
  • Identify potential triggers and behaviours of concern, using appropriate strategies to help students manage difficult situations.
  • Work with students across a range of abilities and needs, adapting support to meet individual requirements where appropriate.
  • Support students who may have SEND, SEMH, or additional behavioural needs.
  • Encourage students to engage positively with their learning and develop positive attitudes towards school.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on students’ behaviour, progress, engagement, and wellbeing, communicating concerns to relevant staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, parents, and the wider school team to support individual students.
  • Implement agreed behaviour support plans, individual strategies, and school policies consistently.
  • Support students during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, school activities, and other situations where behavioural support may be required.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, learning resources, and activities that promote positive engagement.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Requirements

  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning, development, behaviour, and wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting, and respectful relationships with students.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and an understanding of positive behaviour strategies.
  • Strong observational and organisational skills, with the ability to identify and respond to individual needs.
  • A proactive, flexible, and adaptable approach to supporting students and staff.
  • A commitment to inclusion and helping all students achieve positive outcomes.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
