Senior Specialist – IH and Lab Safety

A leading pharmaceutical and life sciences company is looking to add a Senior Specialist – Industrial Hygiene and Lab Safety to its Worcester, Massachusetts operation. This site-based position will support laboratory, operations, and process development environments, with a strong focus on industrial hygiene, chemical safety, and process safety. This person will be tasked with strengthening EHS programs, evaluating workplace exposures and risks, and implementing practical solutions that protect employees and maintain regulatory compliance. It is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of technical safety programs within a complex, highly regulated environment.

The Role

• Lead industrial hygiene activities, including exposure assessments, monitoring strategies, sampling, and technical recommendations.
• Provide technical EHS support for laboratory, chemical, ergonomic, and process safety risks.
• Develop and implement EHS programs, procedures, and training to strengthen compliance and reduce workplace risk.
• Lead incident investigations, risk assessments, and process safety reviews, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to drive EHS improvements, address regulatory requirements, and communicate performance trends and key risks.

The Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with approximately 5-10 years of relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience in industrial hygiene, process safety, and process safety management systems.
• Strong laboratory and chemical safety experience, ideally within pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, or another highly regulated environment.
• Experience with process hazard analysis (PHA), exposure assessments, risk assessments, or process/project engineering is highly desirable.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
