The General Production Worker performs hands-on polishing, buffing, and finishing operations on a variety of parts using specialized equipment and abrasives. This role sets up and operates mechanical tumbling and automated sandblast machines, monitors media wear, and prepares finished parts for subsequent processes while maintaining accurate documentation. The position also includes routine preventive maintenance tasks and adherence to 6S standards to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient production environment.
Responsibilities- Perform repetitive hand polishing and buffing operations on a variety of parts using prescribed wheels and abrasives to achieve required finish standards.
- Set up polishing and buffing equipment, including selecting appropriate wheels and abrasives, and changing wheels and belts as specified.
- Load, process, and unload parts from a mechanical tumbling machine, ensuring proper handling and throughput.
- Monitor tumbling media wear and replace media according to the production schedule or as operational needs arise.
- Load, process, and unload parts from an automated sandblast machine, maintaining consistent quality and productivity.
- Monitor blasting media levels and condition, and replace media according to the production schedule or as needed to sustain optimal performance.
- Prepare finished parts for the next operation in the value stream, including proper staging, labeling, and completion of all required documentation for work performed.
- Perform various preventive maintenance activities, including daily inspection of equipment to identify, report, and help prevent possible issues.
- Maintain disciplined 6S checklist routines to support a safe, organized, and clean working environment.
- Perform other related production duties as assigned by the supervisor to support overall manufacturing operations.
- Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar role or in a manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Ability to follow written instructions accurately and consistently.
- Proficient communication skills, including clear verbal communication and basic written communication.
- Hands-on experience with production tasks such as assembly, machine operation, packaging, and inspection.
- Capability to perform repetitive manual tasks while maintaining attention to detail and product quality.
- Experience working with polishing, buffing, tumbling, or sandblasting equipment in a production setting.
- Familiarity with 6S or similar workplace organization and safety methodologies.
- Basic understanding of preventive maintenance practices on production machinery.
- Ability to complete production documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with defined production schedules.

Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a manufacturing and production facility where you will spend most of the day on your feet and working with machinery. You will stand for approximately 8 or more hours per day and walk for 6 to 8 hours per day while performing production tasks. The position requires frequent lifting of 30 to 50 pounds both below and above shoulder height, as well as frequent pushing and pulling of similar weights. Stooping, kneeling, and bending occur occasionally, for about 2 hours per day. You must be able to consistently operate a productivity machine for a minimum of 6 hours per day and communicate and exchange information with other team members verbally, nonverbally, and in writing. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with structured routines to maintain a well-ordered workspace.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Haven, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.70/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
