Job Description

• This full-time Technician role focuses on vegetation removal, restoration, and maintenance in outdoor environments. You will support commercial landscaping and construction activities by removing vegetation, chipping debris, and helping maintain California vegetation in and around landfill and related sites. The work is physically demanding, performed outdoors all day, and involves both manual and equipment-based tasks to control weed growth and support site restoration.

Responsibilities

• Remove vegetation and perform chipping on assigned job sites to support vegetation control and restoration activities.
• Chop weeds down using hand tools while helping maintain California vegetation according to project requirements.
• Work as part of designated crews, including hand weeder teams and backpack sprayer teams, to complete daily assignments safely and efficiently.
• Use hand tools while bent or crouched for extended periods to cut, clear, and remove weeds and unwanted vegetation.
• Follow behind hand weeder crews with backpack sprayers, applying pesticides to treated areas to help prevent weed regrowth, in accordance with safety guidelines and instructions.
• Perform vigorous, physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions throughout the full workday.
• Walk, hike, and occasionally park at a distance to access job sites, especially after recent rains or when terrain requires it.
• Assist with plant identification and installation as part of site restoration and landscaping projects.
• Follow on-site training and instructions to learn proper techniques for vegetation control, equipment use, and safety procedures.
• Commute to the Prima Landfill or other designated job sites as requested to support project needs.
• Use general labor, construction, hand tool, and power tool skills to support daily operations and complete assigned tasks.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Essential Skills

• Experience in commercial landscaping and construction, with exposure to outdoor field work.
• Ability to perform general labor tasks in a physically demanding, outdoor environment for the full workday.
• Proficiency using hand tools for cutting, chopping, and clearing vegetation.
• Basic experience with power tools used in construction or vegetation control settings.
• Capability to perform vegetation control and restoration tasks, including weed removal and debris handling.
• Willingness and ability to work in vigorous conditions, including bending, crouching, lifting, and hiking to access job sites.
• Comfort working with California vegetation and learning plant identification and installation techniques.
• Reliability in commuting to the Prima Landfill and other assigned sites as needed.
• Readiness to follow on-site training and safety instructions, including proper use of pesticides when assigned to backpack sprayer duties.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in vegetation control or environmental restoration projects.
• Familiarity with backpack sprayers or similar equipment used for pesticide application.
• Comfort working on landfill or similar industrial outdoor sites.
• Certifications are not required for this position, making it suitable for individuals looking to build experience in landscaping, construction, or restoration.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to follow direction from supervisors and crew leads.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and best practices for vegetation management and restoration.

Work Environment

• This position is based primarily at the Prima Landfill and other outdoor job sites, where work takes place outside all day in varying weather conditions. You will work directly with California vegetation and may need to park and hike into sites, especially after rain or when terrain requires additional access effort. The environment is physically demanding and involves general labor, construction, and vegetation control tasks using hand tools and power tools. Safety is a priority, and you will use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, long sleeve shirts, long pants, boots, hard hat, and safety vest as standard attire on site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Juan Capistrano, CA.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
