Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role supports a metal fence manufacturing facility by troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on production equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The Maintenance Technician works on machinery such as roll formers, presses, saws, welders, conveyors, and material handling equipment, and plays a key role in minimizing downtime and supporting production schedules in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on production and facility equipment.
- Maintain and service production machinery used in the fabrication of metal fence panels, posts, gates, and related components.
- Diagnose equipment failures, determine root causes, and complete repairs promptly to support production schedules.
- Conduct routine inspections of machinery, tooling, and facility equipment to identify wear, damage, or potential issues.
- Install, adjust, and align motors, bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts, conveyors, and other machine components to ensure proper operation.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and performance.
- Perform welding and fabrication repairs on equipment, racks, and facility structures as needed.
- Maintain and troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, including motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, relays, and control panels.
- Support maintenance and repairs of forklifts, compressors, air systems, and other plant utilities.
- Complete work orders accurately and document all maintenance activities in maintenance tracking systems.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and internal safety standards at all times.
- Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns and provide support during scheduled maintenance shutdowns.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area, including proper storage and care of tools and equipment.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting industrial production equipment and machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including working with motors, VFDs, sensors, relays, and control panels.
- Hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs on manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with roll formers, presses, saws, welders, conveyors, and material handling equipment or similar machinery.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize maintenance tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
- Comfort working in an industrial metal fabrication environment with heavy equipment and complex machinery.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with welding and fabrication, including the use of hand and power tools.
- Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems.
- Forklift, boom lift, or other industrial equipment certifications.
- Experience supporting maintenance and repairs of forklifts, compressors, and air systems.
- Experience using maintenance tracking systems or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience in continuous improvement or participation in equipment upgrade and modification projects.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with production and other departments during maintenance activities.

Work Environment
This position is on the 2nd shift, typically Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., with frequent extension to 4:00 a.m. and additional Saturday work, resulting in workweeks that often exceed 60 hours. The role is based in a dirty metal fabrication shop environment with heavy industrial equipment, metal dust, noise, and active production lines. You will work around machinery such as roll formers, presses, saws, welders, conveyors, forklifts, compressors, and air systems, using a variety of hand and power tools. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and safe operation around moving equipment. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are necessary to perform the job safely and effectively.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fredericksburg, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
